This special tribute issue nearly one year since the passing of both Lana and David—we’re honored to share Lana Testa’s Tall Tales with all of you. This issue pays tribute not only to Lana’s extraordinary talent but to the remarkable woman behind the dolls: a beloved mother, grandmother, friend, fellow primitive decorator, and so much more!
Lana’s handmade creations were truly one-of-a-kind. They were crafted from antique shoes, worn quilts, aged cloth, and reclaimed materials. Each doll told a story rooted in history, imagination, and the soul of primitive art.
Among her most beloved works are her Fourth of July dolls. Draped in bold reds, whites, and blues, they radiate patriotism, joy, and a deep love for country.
